Short Path Distillation is the next technology to become commercially viable in the marijuana industry. With all the legalization talk in Canada (and actions down south) there has been a boom in the last few years for high science.
Short Path Distillation of marijuana is a process that creates a clear distillate containing THC and CBD out of winterized BHO (Butane Hash Oil) through THC distillate extraction. The CBD can be added back to the purified THC for a 50/50 ratio.
The THC is evaporated from the 'feed' substance which is a raw cannabis puree removed of the green matter. The THC is then cooled in a separate collector, thus producing pure THC 99%+ purity when executed perfectly.
The resin is separated from the plant matter with butane, then the butane/oil mixture is pressurized and heated to a level where the THC is extracted from the resin- trichomes- without any other elements.
CBD remains in the resin and can by consumed by itself for the non-psychoactive properties, or THC can be added back to provide a 50/50 ratio THC to CBD.
Distilled THC and CBD is hard to find. Cheeba's got our first batch in Febuary and it looks promising. Just like shatter, you can buy distilled THC in several forms. Pre-filled vape pens are available, as well as an oral syringe with smokable tip, or capsule.
Clients (in-house and other) found the high to be very clear. The potency varied amongst users, from crystal-clear euphoric to mild numbing.
